Asclepias tuberosa. Butterfly milkweed has bright orange flowers and grows to about 60 - 90 cm tall. Sow seed at a depth of twice the diameter of the seed. Butterfly weed requires winter cold to bloom, so spring-sown plants will not bloom their first summer. However, the long summer days will allow the seedlings to grow into large plants which will produce many blooms the following year. An essential addition to the butterfly garden. Blooms in July.
